Internal/External Reform Initiative Paper

Post your planned Reform Initiatives here:

As we created a list of school reform initiatives in class, perhaps we can post the reform initiatives that we actually intend to tackle, that way if there are overlaps people can share research and support one another. When you know what you plan on exploring--add it as a comment.

Also, as questions and concerns arise--this can be a place to help each other.

I plan to examine the Reading First initiative in Elementary Schools.

If any of our Elementary folk have some good overview sites or recommendations to make a start, I'd love to hear about them before I delve into the "Peer-reviewed" journals.

Also, another good one for Middle School is the SRA program for scripted reading, direct instruction. I don't remember if that was up on the board or not.

If anyone is interested in the SRA at the middle school level let me know.

I know low people in high places.

(In education I think we all do)

My high school has begun a program called Writing to Learn. If anyone is interested in using this for the school reform paper, let me know.

Dave, I don't personally do working on the work, (I haven't been teaching long enough) but my school does, so if you want to talk to a teacher about it, I can find several. (We're currently in between principals, and interviewing my asst. principal would not be helpful, so I can't help you out on that front.)

I was looking at whole language or literacy first for elementary. I do not know of any elementary reforms currently in use. I will complete something tonight.
